Elisabet Vilella studied Biology at the University Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and defended her PhD at the same university, in 1990.
She was awarded by the Spanish Government for a predoctoral fellowship and by the Fundación Ferrer para la Investigación with a postdoctoral Severo Ochoa fellowship.
During this period, she stayed for short term visits at University of Washnington (Seattle, USA) and Tufts University (Boston, USA) and a long term stay at University of Umeä, in Sweden. Since 1995 she is an assistant docent at University Rovira i Virgili and researcher at Hospital Universitari Institut Pere Mata. She’s currently head of the research group devoted to identify genetic and environmental risk factors for psychiatric disorders and chief of the Research Department.
From 1994 to 2017 she was member and secretary of the trustees’ committee of the Institut Pere Mata, a private company serving the public mental health network in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain).
